Gulf Copper Enrolls in the Green Marine Program
Galveston Shipyard Environmental Policy and Green Marine Program Participation
Gulf Copper has enrolled its Galveston shipyard in the Green Marine program. Green Marine is a voluntary environmental certification program for the North American marine industry that provides a roadmap for Gulf Copper to meet its environmental goals. The program evaluates participating shipyards, ship owners, terminals, and port authorities based on established air, land, and water pollution performance indicators.
Gulf Copper has been a Green Marine member since 2024. At the initial audit, Gulf Copper achieved Level 2 on four of the performance indicators, and by the 2025 assessment, it had reached Level 2 on all six indicators.
Gulf Copper’s critical targets for the near term include reducing waste, minimizing carbon emissions, and continuing work in spill prevention and response capability. The shipyard will seek to be a leader in environmental management by:
- Making employees aware of the potential environmental impact of their work and the attendant responsibility to reduce those impacts.
- Evaluating and maintaining compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements.
- Establishing specific objectives to improve operations using conservation and pollution prevention efforts.
- Communicating environmental requirements and objectives to shipyard employees.
